There. I did it. After what seems like a trip to hell and back, I finally blogged “something.” Yes, to you the word something is only one word, but to me, after such a long time of not blogging anything, blogging one single solitary word is a start. See, I’ve spent literally every moment since my last blog post waiting for the right moment and the right thought to blog something, and came to one Captain Obvious conclusion: there is never a right moment and never a right thought to blog something; you just have to take the moment and put out whatever thought bounces around between your ears. I’ve always said that’s what a personal blog is all about. It’s not a voyage through someone else’s mind, it’s a voyage through your own. And trust me, if you want a voyage through my mind, all I gotta say is fasten your seatbelt and make sure your tray is in the upright and locked position!
So, after getting sick and tired of all the voices in my head screaming “Dammit Rumble, write something!”, I’ve finally screamed back, “okay dammit, I’ll write something!” Mission Accomplished. Now please, if you are so inclined (as my dear friend Laura always says) go ahead and grab a shot of your favorite adult beverage and join me in a toast that I wrote about something; albeit one word.
I was also inspired to blog something by my dear friend Carrie London, who I was privileged to share the stage with for a production of Almost, Maine at a community theatre in Fuquay-Varina, NC last year. Carrie has a neat blog of her own (growinghumans.wordpress.com) and just finished blogging something every day for this past month of November. I was stunned. I was amazed. Granted she’s an English major, but I was dumbfounded at how she managed to come up with something every single day. She blogged about the good, the bad, and the ugly…and the downright ugly in her life about dealing with her illness and the challenges she has to face to fight it. While reading one of her daily posts, the voices in my head ganged up on me and said, “See, Carrie didn’t wait for that right moment or right thought to blog something, she just went ahead and did it.” They then asked me again what my excuse was for not blogging something every day; when I couldn’t produce a decent comeback, they just rolled their eyes.
So, I’m taking the baton from Carrie, and have decided to challenge myself and blog something every single day in the month of December…even if it is one word. After all, this post started focused on one word, something, and I think I did pretty darn good finally writing something.
